More ramblings and a target.

As we draw towards the end of the month and what will be my lowest mileage month of the year with only about 100 miles bagged due to holidays with family and other commitments.

I start my new position at work on monday and I am in my last shift of 4 days at work at the moment, this will be a big change for me and a departure from shift work to more 9-5 based hours for the first time in my life so it may take a bit of adjusting to the new hours and any office based politics that may occur although I am looking forward to the challenge of a new role and new responsibilities.

As far as running is concerned I really need to get my finger out and get back into proper training and start hitting 200 mile months again and racking up the long runs starting with a 20miler tomorrow on the road. I am running the JW ultra on September 24th as a good long training run and I am entered into Caesers Camp 100 miler in October for which i am 7th on the waiting list for a space so hopefully I will get to run that. After that I think I need to concentrate getting the miles in for a few months over the Christmas period to build my base back up and extend my long runs up to about 30 miles and chuck in some back to back long ones to beat my legs up a bit. It will be interesting how I fit this training into my new working hours without impacting family time too much.

My big target between now and Christmas is to finally crack my weight and get it down to 13-13.5 stone by Christmas day (then pig out Christnmas dinner!). It is probbably my undoing in the hilly events and if I want to take this running malarky seriously then It needs to be addressed.I don’t intend doing any silly diets I should be able to do it by simply eating a bit less and slightly better foods and less junk etc along with my training naturally upping. I always tend to up my food intake when training hard but if I eat the same or less amounts of better foods and introduce more fruits etc into my diet I should be able to drop the weight at least a couple of pound a week.
Currently I am 15st 6lb and I will set myself the target of 15st by the 15th of September and we will see from there. Feel free to heckle me if I dont achieve it!

I am still undecided as to what to do about lakeland 100 next year and Spartathlon, I suspect I will decide at some point after the Lakeland entries open in October.

Running Club tonight so an easy 7 miler before my long one tomorrow.
