Monarchs Way Day day 9

So day 9 of a possible 14!
The guys are doing great. Still a fantastic and supportive partnership with a little bromance thrown in!
While the guys were out on this leg we scouted out the next Cp location and found it had changed since last year. We were not happy with the facilities so we scouted out a new better cp in a field by a country pub who kindly allowed is to be there.

We then went out and met the guys with some food and a water top up at Ham Hill which is a local viewpoint. The guys were very tired but still happy and even managed a little jog away from us after the food.

Chris was sharing the navigation with Alan, I was just showing him the way to the next section on his device.
The guys had a few issues at a section just a couple of km north of the CP. They could not find the path and the GPS file was not leading them to any real path. They phoned Alan’s other half Lyndsay and she messaged me. I checked where they were and the maps and it looked  like it should be relatively easy but after a call and a few messages I decide to run out to their location and lead them into the Cp. I soon realised why they could not find the right way as I had trouble and I was awake and not tired. I walked down through the farm which had loads of new cow sheds and machinery. I spoke to a farmer and he explained that the path had been rerouted a while back and that’s why the os map did not talky up with the path on the land. I found the correctly marked path and navigated to where they were and led them back to the camp.
Again they scoffed their faces and changed kit, charged devices and snatched some sleep. Their buffer from 3 days ago had been almost 20 hours above the cut off and over the last 3 days it had been reduced to only 4 and a bit hours now when they left this CP at 3:30pm. They had another long 47ish mile leg to get done. Although on this leg they will reach the south coast. Up against it on time and energy they are still in good spirits and determined to give it their best shot and not let the buffer reduce anymore and push a little on this leg.
We will monitor them more closely on this leg and pop out and check on them now and again. Some quite rural and hilly bits to negotiate in the dark.
This leg will test them to their limits and they will have to push quite hard to not lose more time and potentially run out of time.
They have to 10pm cut off at the next CP and Winyards Gap. Cut off time is the time they leave the CP by and if they are tight they will have no time to eat, change and sleep…….
