Monarchs Way Day 8

So currently I am sitting in a tent with Maxine on a campsite just off the route halfway between CP7 and 8. It was nice to get a proper shower and reorganise some of the kit in the truck. We also went and checked out and confirmed the next CP locations.
Chris had badly torn his shirt whilst navigating a fence a few days ago so whilst we were out the other day we went and bought him a new shirt from Go Outdoors and he put it on today.  As you can see from the below pictures I think he likes it!
The boys have a tough day ahead of them starting in some wet and tough conditions. Luckily it dried up quickly and they have been able to move reasonably well for the distance covered so far. Me and Maxine went to meet them at Castle Cary and had a little walk with them up to the viewpoint over the castle.
Chris tried to cement the relationship with a sudden kiss! Alan got very manly very quickly! We then left them to carry on and went off to buy some food and meet them a bit further on. We made another impromptu checkpoint where the Monarchs Way crosses and travels along a lane. We fed them with coke and doughnuts and cold pizza bread from Lidl.
Though both tired they are still in very good spirits and moving as best they can. They are still smiling and joking and working together extremely well even after over 350 miles. In fact they fist bumped at the 350 miles mark and it looked like they have a little set of routines for marking off their little achievements which is fantastic.
With tiredness catching up on them and fatigue they are starting to make more navigation errors and go off track more. Sometime struggling and taking time to make a decision on which direction where you or I make take a second to decide when not tired is taking them an age. They still have a good buffer for the the next cut off time but that won’t last long if they can’t keep the pace up.
They are giving it everything and are still asking the questions from their bodies and minds.  It’s a fantastic effort so far and will continue through the night until they get this leg done.
We will obviously monitor them more closely as their tiredness increases.
It’s been a great day, and it won’t be over till tomorrow sometime. Then they will need a rest before it all starts again!
Till tomorrow…….
