Progress and planning.

.

So as a small update to previous post explaining that we have set the date for moving from the flat into the caravan.

Over the last few weeks we have started planning properly and moving towards actually doing the deed so to speak.
Things we have done recently.

We have booked the site we will first pitch our van on while we move into it at the beginning of May. It’s the same site we store the van on, Colchester Holiday Park which is a small well run site and we get a good discount because we have storage there. It’s an ideal base in Essex as it’s central to the A12 and Essex and have full facilities including a laundry on site

More research into personal addresses and business address we will use whilst mobile to keep everything legal and ensure we can still get the cars and caravan insured etc.
For myself I will likely use boatmail for my personal address and have anything important scanned and sent to me or forwarded to my storage address once a month or every couple of weeks at the most.
I will also set up a postal redirect for 12 months so that I don’t miss anything important. As post gets redirected I will update addresses and try wherever possible to go paperless and this will limit the number of times anything needs forwarding and reduce costs.
Ref business address I will likely use a company such as Mailbox etc in Chelmsford as this will still give my business a Essex address. I can easily collect business post from their high street offices when I am in Essex which is still likely to be around once a month for short periods to see friends and run events down here as well as spend time with my daughter.
That should take care of all the legals.
We have bought everything we need now for the caravan (we think) in order to start living in it and yesterday went out and checked it over as it’s possibly the last time we will see it before we start living in it in 6 weeks time. We also started moving some stuff into the van. Just the dvd collection from the flat bit it’s a start! We have moved it into boxes under the seating on one side and a small selection in one of the overhead lockers, we will rotate what’s in the boxes and locker. It makes it all much more real to have actual stuff leaving the flat and moving into the van. We also filtered the dvd collection down a bit and put lots in a box for charity and others to give away to friends who have small children as I had a load still from when my daughter was very little that we are unlikely to watch ever again.
We will start to work on the books next week. If anyone wants books to read we will have a load we are giving away.
We can get so much on kindle etc now and watch TV via Amazon fire we will find we don’t need or use traditional books and dvds which is a good thing as space is limited.
A couple of weeks worth of DVD’s kept in the overhead locker
We have also started planning where we will be in between races based in Essex. We have planned some long periods in the lakes and in Wales and will be booking up sites soon. Once we do we will let anybody our friends know and they can pop in and say hi if they wish.
We actually went a couple of weeks ago to the camping and caravan spring show and it was really cool to look around all the new caravans. Surprisingly although our caravan is a little dated in its decor and looks it actually still has the majority of all the features on a modern van. We actually have more storage with our layout and more on board water and a larger user payload meaning we can carry more stuff. Although it would be nice to upgrade in a year or two.
I have spoken with a lunar dealer as well about upgrading the maximum weight our caravan is allowed to be and although this will cost £65 it will give us another 95kg to play with in the loading of the van which we will need as when living in it we expect it to weigh much more than when people use it for holidays only.
This will be a total maximum weight of 1800kgs which will still be towed fine behind our pick up truck which has a limit of 2.5t for towing.
One thing which will be a shame is there will be no room for our medals and trophies to be displayed. We will likely have a “last medal won” displayed in the van policy and the rest will be in storage.
Any questions please feel free to ask as you may remind us of something we have forgotten!

The van is old and a little dated but has plenty of space and is well equipped
