I am officially into my taper now for the GUCR on the 24th. I only have about 35-40 miles planned this week and only 2 runs next week on Tuesday and Wednesday before race day on Saturday.
I have got so used to getting up in the morning early and getting out for 8ish miles that it feels wrong to either only run 4 miles or not get up at all as in this morning. I will have to watch my eating too as I will easily put weight back on if I eat as I have been whilst running 100 mile weeks. I expect to put a few pounds back on but not much more.
This weekend I am supporting Sue my fiancee in her first 50 miler the NDW50 which is a fantastic race put on by Centurion Running, I myself am doing the 100 mile version later in the year.
I will be dropping Sue off at the start and then myself and the two girls (Laura 11, Becky 14) will be travelling round the course supporting Sue and other runners we know.
Hopefully the weather holds and it is a good day for all, I am looking forward to seeing one of TORQTrailteam members Chris Mercer on his first 50 miler and maybe kick his arse if it needs 🙂
Then over the weekend I will be finalising the packing and all my plans and kit etc for the GUCR and making sure I am as best prepared mentally and physically as possible to give it my best effort on the day.
On Tuesday I ran a 43minute 10k for my club mid week league race, it was pissing down for the whole 10k and I was late for the start by about a minute so really had to cane it to try to catch up as many people as possible. I enjoyed it and it was my last good effort run before taper mode set in.
Laters…

Best of luck Mate.
