TORQ Trail Team 2013

Its official as of today I am the 6th member of the TORQ Trail Running Team!

I have actually known since last week and it may have almost not happened for me as I got an email from Simon one of the organisers for the team saying they had been trying to get a hold of me on my mobile and had left messages and to get in touch. I had changed my mobile number and had forgot to update Simon and Julie. I immediately called Simon back and conformed with him that I was still interested and available for the team and could commit to the Training weekend and a few other questions and he said they were still finalising the team but he would let me know in a hour or two the results of their decision. About and hour or so later Simon phoned me and offered me a place on the team which really surprised me and I obviously took without hesitation.
I have had to be silent and keep it secret until the official announcements on facebook etc and for those who know me that is a very hard thing to ask me to not talk about running. I did however manage to keep it quiet and Julie and Simon made me sweat by announcing me last!

The Team has been set up by Simon and Julie from Freestak who are social media experts and have worked with various spoting brands. They are both good runners and had an idea to put a team together of committed but non-elite runners, a pretty normal mixed bunch of people and offer them some of the support elite runners are used too such as kit, nutrition and other support throughout the year. This is a pretty cool idea and they put it out for all to apply, I was lucky enough to be shortlisted for one of the assessment days (see previous blogs) and had a great day at Church Stretton.

TORQ Fitness are the main team sponsors and will be providing nutrition advice and products throughout the year and this will hopefully include their wonderful gels in amazing flavours which are well worth a try. They even have rasberry ripple and bannoffe flavours.
Other sponsors will be involved but we don’t know who yet.

 The Team:

Let me introduce you to the team as a whole as all the names have been released.

They are a very interesting bunch indeed with a great mix of abilities and interests and it will be a pleasure to meet them properly and run with them throughout the year. please go to the TORQ Running facebook page to see individual profiles and read their amazing stories.
Part of this amazing opportunity to be part of the team for a year is a training weekend in Chamonix and we get to run the CCC course over 3 days with a guide. It will be awesome to run with the team out there in such beautiful surroundings and experience such an epic course. I am really looking forward to it.

The course route and profile

This is an absolutely epic opportunity and one I will not likely ever get again so I intend to make the most of it and throw myself into it. I cant wait to race in team kit and represent the team promoting trail running. My first race of any kind as a team runner will be this Sunday as I am running Halstead Marathon as a training run on the back of a 100 mile week and although I dont have any team kit yet I will do my best to represent the team.
My first long trail race is in less than 3 weeks time at the 145 mile GUCR starting on the 24th and hopefully I will have some team kit by then to show off and motivate me to perform to my best.
Thanks again to Simon and julie for selecting me and TORQ for supporting a great team.
Please feel free to comment and I will try log my training etc on the other pages to this blog on the tabs at the top.
Now get out and run…..
