Monarchs Way Day 3

Just a quick update on day 3.
All three runners still in the race and still its Chris and Alan working together ahead of Lee on his own at the rear.
Both sets of runners still remaining on the different strategies they are employing.
Alan and Chris are moving as quickly as they can and taking nominal sleep with only 3-4 hours actual sleep at each location. Today was no different. They came into CP3 at Waseley Country Park at around 10am and left by 2:30pm and had eaten before they slept and when they got up. They are both in great spirits and look in good condition. A little patching up on Alan’s feet but nothing major and the fact that he did Hardmoors 110 only 2 weeks ago means they are holding up well.
Chris is like a machine and seems to be as sprightly as he was at the start. Both of them left in great shape and with a few hi fives and a couple of fist bumps they plodded on up the hill and onto the next leg.
Lee is taking a much more steady approach with longer sleep breaks and more time stopping for feet and food management. He left CP 2 before 7am this morning and onto CP3, a few friends popped along to do a couple of miles with him and this was great for his motivation and support as obviously he is spending more time on his own. He arrived at CP3 in good shape around midnight and intends to leave some time before 7am and head off in pursuit of the other two.
Lee is in good nick and again in good spirits.
I put a little fun into the trackers by changing the names on the tracking system. Lee became Lee-Stuart Clockwise Evans after the discussions about which way to run the Boscobel loops.
Alan became Alan Short Shorts Cormack after his little shorts that don’t hide much!
Chris became Chris HULK Yeo after tearing his shirt yesterday. He has a brand new shirt now and I may play with the names again soon. Especially if anyone gives me any ammunition for a funny name.
We were joined by Brian yesterday afternoon who makes the crew numbers up to 3. Each runner now has a dedicated support crew which as they progress through the race and spread out more means everyone is looked after to the same level. Including foot care and food choices.
The rest of the crew are currently sleeping whilst I monitor trackers and write this and I will catch a few winks later.
The support by all and messages for runners are being read by us and the runners when they get online now and again and I am sure it makes them feel supported.
As they tire throughout the next week or so that will become more valuable.
We had a small minutes silence today for Paul Ali a friend of mine who stopped last year just after the country park in honour of his knees that gave up at this point.
We had another small minutes silence later on honour of Allan Rumbles who’s feet gave up the ghost later today as well last year!
We may also have sacrificed a pair of Maxine trainers to the tree God’s as a bit of fun!
Tomorrow as runners pass the point north of Stratford where Tim Welch the last runner from last year finally called it a day we may have a small milk and monster munch ceremony to mark that point!
So until tomorrow enjoy your dot watching, obviously to include the other cool races like dragons back that started and those cool race from the weekend.
When all those have finished we may still be trundling onwards towards the south coast!
Night all.
Lindley.
