So I have decide to revive my old blog that I have not posted on for over a year. There have been many changes in my life and many not so far in the future changes ahead which I though might need documenting. Even if its just for the purpose of me looking back and thinking “What a dick” in another year or two’s time!
I wont go into huge detail but over the last year or two I have had some fairly big changes in my life, from leaving a very secure and responsible well respected career in the fire service and setting up Challenge Running as my full time job, Getting qualified in Higher level First Aid and other qualifications, to starting down the road towards decluttering my life. All in order to work towards a 2017 target of a much more free mobile life not tied to any particular location as a way of trying to be more involved in the outdoors and Sports I love, simply living and being more outdoors.
A little more detail on what has changed since my Last blog.
The Beard!
Not much to say really, I started growing a beard after leaving the fire service last year as for years of military and fire service without being able to grow one I thought I would see what kind of Beard I could grow. After 18 months it turns out a pretty spectacular beard is what I can grow!
The Job:
After over 18months with just doing Challenge Running stuff as a full time job I don’t seem to have starved and have not yet been evicted for not paying rent (I have actually ben paying!) so I will put that one down to being a success! On a more serious note its been hard work and I have had to do some other work to keep things afloat financially, from agency work driving trucks to teaching Nav skills and first aid to working on other events to make end meet and though I am only just getting by I am living a better life being my own boss than I could have if I was earning more money working for someone else.
I enjoy almost all the work I do, especially the coaching/training and helping people achieve their goals or improve their skills
2017 should be better with more freelance work including race work on other races and more first aid work at various events.
I enjoy organising and running the races especially the ultra stuff that really challenges people and inspires and motivates them to train and succeed.

The summer life changing plans:
The plan is in the summer that me and Maxine use our newly acquired caravan to live in and travel around the country and explore. Both of us can run our businesses from a laptop for the most part and we both want to be outdoors most of the time. We have decided to end our lease on the flat and live in the caravan as our home. Apart from times we need to be in a geographical location we can simply be anywhere we like on the end of the phone or on the internet. This will also cost slightly less than living in a flat and paying to go away at weekends to the lakes etc. We will simply live in the area we are wanting to work in or explore as needed.
The caravan we have bought is a very large older twin axle van but in good condition and with all the features and space we need. Fixed double bed, proper bathroom, two sofas which can be a bed for visitors or kids, full kitchen with fridge/oven/sink etc and we have bought a large air awning to add some covered outdoor space as well. plenty of space to live in. Combined with the storage in the pick up truck and the caravan storage we will get all the belongings we need in fine. It will be interesting to see how that works out over the summer.
