Hoka One One Stinson Evo’s

I have recently bought a pair of Hoke One One Stinson Evo’s These are trail specific versions of my Stinson B’s and have a few noticable differences. They are a nice bright green/yellow colour with blue bits which I actually really like.

They have speed laces which work really well and tuck away nicely into a small elastic flap. The tread depth is much deeper that the Stinson B so it works better in mud and hopefully will help with wear rates.

Due to previous wear on my ostinson B and early signs of wear on these I will try to slow the wear down early with some Shoe Goo to try to add some resistance to early wear. We will see how that goes.

First impressions: I really like these ones, they are comfy and just as fast as my B’s but do feel a little stiffer underfoot. They have tuning holes in the side apparently to drill into to adjust the flex and cusioning but I will leave that alone. I have worn these only on 3 runs including a road 10k and they were great. I reall like them its just a shame about the price and possible wear issues as they seem to love the miles put on them. I will post more after I have worn them at GUCR to test them on a proper long one.

Update 17-6-2012
I have done over 150 miles in these now and have also ran 50 continuous miles in a single run during the GUCR a couple of weeks ago. I find them comfy to run in even more so than the Stinson Bs, the lacing system is easy to use and is secure most of the time but I have found if you try to do them up very tight then they can slip a tiny bit but not to the point of coming loose. The tread works much better on muddy trails than the Stinson Bs but obviously still not great on really deep mud where only shoes like Inov-8s really cope well but overall good grip and stability. With regards to wear I have been using Shoe Goo to reinforce the sole from day one and it really seems to be protecting and slowing down wear quite well. I am building the sole back up every couple of weeks and this seems to be preserving the sole nicely. If a £5 tube of Shoe Goo can save a £125 pair of shoes then that’s all good . On the whole I really like them still and they seem to allow me to run lots of miles without as much fatigue. I would easily buy another pair even though they are expensive. I do like the colour too!

Update: These shoes have finally given up the ghost and worn out. The shoe goo worked really well and kept the sole alive and eventually they split along the flex point where the sole and upper join. They had done over 550 miles and I consider that a good innings for a shoe.
