Spartahlon and Stuff

Hi not really had time to post on here in a few weeks.

One of my aims in the last few years with running ultra’s is to hopefully one day get good enough to give Spartahlon a go at some point in the future.
This year I have decided that I have a chance, at least a small one to complete if I train properly up to September and get some more ultra experience it may be possible.
Once entries were open this year I entered online and although there was some confusion with the system crashing on the first attempt and having to enter a second time I have been accepeted and my running number is 30. I am commited now so better get training.
It is not too expensive for a race abroad and worth every penny I think.

For those who don’t know this race is based on the journey reported to have been completed in 36 hours by the greek messenger phiedippides when he ran from Athens to Sparta to ask the Spartans to fight against the Persians.
A total distance on the current closest road and trails of 153 miles. This is one of the greatest and most prestigious races in the world and there is likely to be a big group of brits going out again this year with myself being a part of it.
This is a truly international race and will be a great event to be part of.
Myself and my missus Sue will fly out at the end of September and she will as always support me in this race and as usual pick up the broken pieces of my body when I am smashed to bits at the end.

This race will require much more effort on my part with regards to training and mileage in training along with getting much more experience in races this year. January this year was my biggest ever and February will hopefully be the same and the mileage will just increase till I am running 250 – 300 miles per month on the run up to the race.
I will also be getting much more race experience and have already done the race in my last post along with next week I am running another 50miler. March will be hardmoors 55 then in April my biggest test to date, the Viking Way Ultra(147miles) which will be very hard. Then GUCR(145miles) in June and a few Marathons such as London and Halstead etc to keep my miles up.

I am bricking it a bit but also relishing the challenge and looking forward to testing myself to and beyond my limits over the year. I just hope I have what it takes to do what I am asking of my body!

We will see…….

P.S. links to the races I have planned are in a link to the right.
