Hi well as we are near the end of 2011 and near the start of 2012 I thought it best to list what I have done in 2011 and what my targets are going into 2012.
I write this as I have eaten far too much and run less than I should have this month but I am sure the rest and food will give me a chance heal up any niggles and get ready for 2012 which will prove to be a big year.
By the end of 2011 I will have run just under 2000 miles in training and races and apart from this month I will have run at least 100+ miles every month and had no significant running halting injuries apart from my knee niggle after GUCR in May.
This is about the same as last year but with a bit more consistency throughout the year.
I will also have swam the grand total of 1mile! more than I have ever done!!!!
I will have cycled 703 miles between my road and mountain bike which is more than last year by over 100%
I have competed ( I say that loosely! ) in about 15 races this year ranging from Parkruns to Ultras. Ultras are really my thing and I have raced in 4 this year.
GUCR (145miles) in May and my longest to date in 38:49
Lakeland 100 in June ( only made 50 miles due to injury from GUCR )
Ceasars Camp 100 in October ( pulled out at 70 due to being unable to complete in the cutoffs )
Hereward Relay Ultra (39miles) in 6:19
Only 50% finish rate is not great but I learnt a lot in those DNFs and also completed the longest race I have ever done.
Into 2012
I have some very big targets for 2012 and will have to really pull my finger out and train hard and put the work in if I am to achieve them.
My ultra plans are:
January – Yorkshire Ultra 50 Miles
February – Poppyline 50 (LWDA event in Norfolk)
March – Hardmoors 55
April – Viking Way (147 miles) a new very tough race starting 2012.
June – GUCR (145 miles) looking forward to having another go at this and see what I can do with a proper training build up to this – I still say this is the best Ultra in the UK.
September – Spartathlon. If all goes well to this point I will hopefully be in shape to have a good go at this.
October – Caesers Camp 100. Try to complete this time.
I will also do shorter races and Duathlons etc as build up between Ultra’s.
May need a rest the remainder of the year after that lot!
My Mileage targets for the year will be:
Running 2000-2500 miles
Cycling 1000+ miles
Swimming 24 miles
If I put the effort in then these should be possible but I will have to manage my time well as with a family and work to fit training around it will be tricky at times.
We will see………….
